Acoustic Album of the week!

Ok who is Josh Kelley? He is " the guy who married the Greys anatomy actress.... which one? the one with the boobs. "
And before he got married to boobalicious Katherine Heigl, he was actually one of my favorite vocalists/singer songwriters. I still think he has better tone than John Mayer and a very good head for bluesy melodies. Oh yes, this is the woman he gets to play doctor and patient with every day.

So Itunes announced his new acoustic effort is out this week and i for one am really happy. He hasn't released a whole lot of covers or acoustic version so to get your hands on a 10 song introduction to his work makes sense. It starts out with my favorite song from his most recent album released this year, "2 cups of coffee" (added in the imeem player) and quicky races through some of his best material over 3 albums and about 8 years. The thing with Josh is he is very very consistent. You wont hardly find a bad song on his album but you also wont really smell the single either. Some of his most memorable work is missing on this release in favour of more commercially played tracks and that is a tad disappointing for fans all over the world.

His most outstanding quality is his vocal tone and below is a clip of him singing dry with a guitar in hand performing "Tidal Wave". Very yummy. He wrote a few songs like this on his 2003 release "For the ride home" such as "Amen" and "Angels" where it's just him and a piano / guitar and his rich layered tone is mesmerizing. Unfortunately, he will probably go down in history as " the guy who married the greys anatomy actress. which one? the one with the boobs. "

Amazing video, killer song

Music Video of the year!

If you have not gotten a copy of Radioheads "In rainbows", you need to shoot yourself. But not before buying this amazing effort from one of the most inventive bands in history. I could type till my fingers bled and there would still be something left unsaid on the current and future legacy Radiohead will leave but for now, let's just enjoy "House of cards" which is a music video that is created organically from 3D plotting technologies. Don't ask me what that means but somewhere some geek just spilt his ribena tonic and started wikipediaing it. ( if you exist, let me know what you found out)

Thanks to Shen for telling me about the vid. Nice one buddy!

I wish i could dance like this!

Alright, it's not really music but i love the song anyway so it sorta counts! ( added the song in the imeem player)

"Forever" by Chris Brown is a seriously good Pop RnB song and he really is the new Usher. I was catching up on my "So you think you can dance" episodes and my favourite hip hoppers Twitch and comfort totally KILLED their routine with this song. Damn! Don't you wish you could move like that? They have more groove in their 1 toe than i have in my entire body

EP of the week!

One day as a lion

There is a saying "It's better to live one day as a lion, than a thousand years as a lamb." I remember reading it a long time ago in a fantasy novel and although the book itself was forgettable, this one line remained etched in my head for years. It can be applied to so many things in life regardless of time, place and opposition. For ex Rage against the Machine front man Zack De la Rocha, bitching about politics and societal breakdown is really nothing new. For me, RATM wasn't something i could identify with growing up. I mean , Singapore isn't exactly the middle east and i will be the first to admit back in 1991, the Gulf war was less important than the dirt on my new Bata Shoes. Fast forward to 2008 and a slightly older more aware me is suddenly approaching the lyrical content of this debut effort with alarming clarity. Music should always touch a nerve, an emotion, stir something. And this 5 song EP certainly bullets it's way deep into your conscience. From the opening track "Wild international" , Zack's opening line shouts his intent " they say that in war that truth be the first casualty.. " you are immediately assaulted by a dirty, sleazy, tight drum beat set against a hypnotizing 7 note that just begs for Zack to preach his message on war. "once again as im that nail in the wrist of their christmas, watch me make thy family a witness" Click the youtube to get a taste

This new collaboration of Zack De la Rocha and ex Mars Volta drummer Jon Theodore is no slouch and definitely not something you want to serenade your valentine with. But from the opening track to the last effort, you will get caught off guard with its musicality and lyrical intent. The 2nd track "Ocean View" is my favourite, i am in love with the haunting chorus " Oceans of tears rise, rise a flame to tear them down, ocean of past crimes now fill our hearts to tear them down" What amazing lyrical depth of empathy and social consciousness!

Ok so , the basics. Yes the songs are noisy and must not be consumed with medication. They aren't pretty, soothing or in any way nice. If you were in a good mood before, trust me, 10 minutes into this EP and you will feel like driving up to the nearest police post and waving your finger at the lonely cop on duty. But i must say, whatever Zack is talking about can be applied to any circumstance in which you feel you need to stand up and fight for, and God knows all of us live in our own imperfect world which isn't all peaches and cream so head down to HMV or buy this online and be prepared to roar and live your one day as a lion!

Introducing the new single from Mr Robin Thicke! The man with no adam's apple who gave us the sensual "Lost without you" is back with his new single and it is magic! Play it to get your boogie on

Magic (BET World Premiere) - Robin Thicke>

Oh yes, if his last name is familiar, he is the son of Alan Thicke, most southpark fans will know how much the creators love to poke fun of Alan Thicke but for most of us , he is simply Mr Seaver of "Growing Pains"

Song of the day!

| Friday, July 25, 2008
I'm in the midst of reviewing " The Script" but i only have their EP and the album hits stores early August so meanwhile i thought i would share this really nice song

" The Man who can't be moved" by The Script

This 3 piece from Dublin remind me of how i felt when Keane first came out. The singer Danny o Donoghue has a rich vibrant tone and the songs are layered really well. This song in particular is amazing, i love the lyrics. The song has also been updated in the Imeem player. Let me know if you like this song and watch out for the full album review when i get my hands on it.

The Script - The Man Who Can’t Be Moved Lyrics

Going back to the corner,
where i first saw you
gonna camp in my sleeping bag,
I’m not gonna move
got some words on cardboard
got your picture in my head
saying: if you see this girl can you tell her were i am
some try to hand me money
they don’t understand
I’m not broke I’m just a broken hearted man
i no it makes no sense
what else can i do
and how can i move on
when I’m still in love with you

cos if one day you wake up
and find that your missing me
and your heart starts to wonder
were on this earth i could be
thinking maybe you’d come back here
to the place that we’d meet
and you’d see me waiting for you
on the corner of the street
so I’m not moving
I’m not moving

police man says son you cant stay here
i say someone I’m waiting for if its a day a month or year
got to stand my ground
even if it rains or snows
if she changes her mind
this is the first place she will go

cos if one day you wake up
and find that your missing me
and your heart starts to wonder
were on this earth i could be
thinking maybe you’d come back here
to the place that we’d meet
and you’d see me waiting for you
on the corner of the street
so I’m not moving
I’m not moving
I’m not moving

people talk about the guy
thats waiting in on a girl
woooaa wooo
and i no who’s in his shoes
put a big hole in his world
ooooo
maybe ill get famous for the man who cant be moved
and maybe you wont mean to but you’ll see me on the news
and you’d come running to the corner
cos you’ll know its just for you
I’m the man who cant be moved
I’m the man who cant be moved

cos if one day you wake up
and find that your missing me
and your heart starts to wonder
were on this earth i could be
thinking maybe you’d come back here
to the place that we’d meet
and you’d see me waiting for you
on the corner of the street
so I’m not moving
I’m not moving
I’m not moving
I’m not moving

going back to the corner were i first saw you
gonna camp in my sleeping bag and I’m not gonna move

Bald and good

Tyrone Wells

Every 2 or 3 years comes along an artiste like Tyrone Wells, a fella who will sing anywhere and anything. A fella who is born to sing and perform, a fella who might never make radio's top 40 yet continues to sing in hallways, dirty bars and empty spaces. Where are these fellas you might ask, well some of these people enter reality shows to get noticed and most of them eventually do make the big time. However, for every Chris Daughtry, there is a Tyrone Wells. Happy to sing in the background delivering performance after performance to an audience that truly appreciates his/her craft.

I discovered Tyrone Wells on myspace and was instantly blown away by his raw vocals. Doing a youtube on him, i found lots of grainy, indie, unglossed and dare i say amateurish videos. There were uploads of him busking in front of a christmas tree, singing in front of a cold lecture hall , falsettoing to a crowd of 5 in an alleyway etc. I was instantly charmed, i had finally found a purist, someone who sang because he loves to sing, covers songs because he loves to entertain. I went straight to itunes and bought his album " Hold on" released in 2007. I won't say he is a great songwriter but i will go so far as to say he is a brilliant vocalist. Here is a taste of Tyrone Wells.

Smooth like silk on a sea breeze.. Let's dive into the album. The first song that caught my eye was actually an upbeat number "What are we fighting for" (loaded in the player ) which has such a nice groove and catchy chorus, you wish you had it playing in all your road trips. My personal favourite is "Dream like New York", although he did rip off Boyz to Men on the opening verse melody, ( it sounds exactly like "Water runs dry) the rest of the song is amazing, the chorus cuts to your heart when he croons
" And dream like New York
As high as the skyline
Aim for the stars above those city lights
I want to dream like New York
I’m running down Broadway
I got to catch the next train
I’m making my way"

It's such an inspiring song for anyone who has dreams and is kinda stuck in the 9-5 doldrums. The whole album is really good to listen to and i must say, it feels good to root for the underdog sometimes. I think HMV stocks his album, if they don't ask them why. Or pick it up from itunes yourself. He's as bald as lex luthor and not even half as famous but somehow, i don't think he really gives a shit. Nice

Beck: Be a loser

| Thursday, July 17, 2008

Beck

I have come to the conclusion after listening to "Modern Times" that Beck is part of a dying breed of modern day story tellers with unparalled talent. Easily one of the godfathers of the indie music we all enjoy today, Beck has been doing his thing for a long long long time. Sure his experimentation hasn't always worked out but i suppose this is the price you pay for genius. Most of us who aren't Beck fans will vaguely remember his one radio song "Loser" released way way back in the 90s. May i take the opportunity to introduce the album "Odelay" to you. Easily one of his best albums and one of THE best albums in the past decade.

Notice i use the word albums often with Beck, as opposed to the current day cotton candy substance of 3 killers and remaining fillers. In fact, these days we actually expect to buy an album for 2-3 songs!! Beck is someone who churns out albums, not singles. He tells stories, not summaries. He weaves magic, not card tricks.

Watch this video preview of the album that does a decent job of meshing bits of different songs into a teaser clip

Beck is someone who collaborates and borrows inspiration from everyone in jazz, blues, electronica, country, folk etc etc. I remember his last album "Guerlito" and how country blues it sounded. If you get the chance to listen to that album, you MUST listen to "Black Tambourine". Arrghh. so good. Click to watch a live performance. ( check out the dancing tambourine guy haha.. screwball)

Anyway i digress again, Modern guilt helms Dangermouse as the partner in crime and what a pairing! Danger Mouse is behind Gnarls Barkley's annoying "Crazy" and also the brains behind Gorillaz. C'mon did you really think Damon Albarn could gradutae from Blur to Gorillaz all by his british lonesome? He had help. alot of help. Danger Mouse is a superbly gifted producer and he lends an astonishing sense of song writing to this album. For one, the album is so well paced that it doesn't feel like a Beck release. I'm used to 10 min orchestra pieces with weird 4 min atmospheric noise from him. In Modern Guilt, not only do the songs bounce easily to the next, they do so with minimal effort and maximim pleasure.

You really need to listen to this album to get the full flavour and by that i mean approaching it from a "How did he do that" perspective. I swear track 6 "Walls" has trash cans as percussions. It's got a simple addicitive chorus with i think organs, keyboards and apparently, thrash cans. Song 8 "Soul of a Man" engages the help of cows i believe. Somehow he re creates moo-ing that works PERFECT for the song. Cows mooing??? Genius i say, genius.

I understand Beck is not for everyone and some of y'all are happy with top 40 and that is perfectly fine. But listen, before you ate oysters, you perhaps only ate cockels. When's the last time you paid 40 bucks for cockels? Give him a go and see if he can't instantly improve your cd library's credibility. I've uploaded 4 songs into the playlist, and do as they say in Australia " You never never know if you never ever go".

Apologize for stopping and staring

One Republic

Thanks to the 11 requests i had for this album, i am totally "so yesterday" with this review. I kinda asked ALL 11 offenders why One republic needed a review when their songs are overplayed on radio, overused on every reality show and overexposed on MTV. The best answer goes to Cindy who said " Dunno.. nice what". (apologies to my new found international readers, you guys will really get some Singlish 101 reading this blog)

I wont post the song here anymore as all key songs are now on the cool player on the right where you can click and listen at leisure. I will however still feature some nice live performances where available. Like.. now :)

For most of us who are abused by local radio,we all first heard uber producer Timbaland use "Apologize" in his album " Shock Value" and made a very good song sound ordinary. Good thing One republic had the common sense to release the original version which is way way better. By the way, is it just me or does Timbaland annoy the hell outta you when he sings/raps? No doubt he has the chops to pull off a top 10 hit but he really should stay behind the mixer and not the mic. I hate it when he goes " O..oh.. O..oh " on his massacre of "Apologize". I mean he already looks like an ape, did he really need to howl like one? geez..

Ok so, "Dreaming out loud" is by all accounts not too shabby. I did some googling and turns out the lead singer (whom i rate very highly) actually did production and song writing for acts like The Fray, Hilary Duff and Natasha Bedingfield. In fact, listen to "Come home" and "All we are", These 2 really sound like what you might expect from The Fray. The way Ryan Tedder wails and emotes, you get the impression he could do a cover of " The scientist" that would put dirty thoughts into Gwenyth Paltrow's pretty little head. Apart from "Apologize", i really like "Stop and stare" which is the current single. Simple lyrics with powerful undertones, listen to the chorus and you'll see it applies to almost of all us. If i could salute Jamarioquai, travelling without moving was the original "think i'm moving but i'm going nowhere"

I know most of you already either bought the album or got bored through radio's constant airplay but there is more to the album than the 2 singles. "Come Home" is my other must listen track that is really nice when on the bus or on transit. "Mercy" is worth more than a spin and more than 2 spins if you wake up early on Sundays. I'll be putting "Come home" in the playlist so you can check it out.

Oh ya do this as an experiment, start singing "stop and stare" (click to open lyrics) then when you get to the chorus , quickly switch to ...." and it's too late to apologize.. it's too lateeee".. it meshes perfectly in the same key tempo etc. Just for God's sweet sake, Please don't do the "O...ohhs."

Katy kisses girls

| Monday, July 14, 2008

Katy Perry

Wow ..little Ms Perry really has stirred heads and loins with "I kissed a girl". It's number 1 in itunes, was recently performed live on Fox's "So you think you can dance", and is the source of a multitude of gay spoofs and inspired videos. Not since the Scissor sisters has there been music so freshly embraced by the pinkies. Do a search on youtube and get ready Madi Gras heaven. If you have not heard the song yet click here.

I Kissed A Girl - Katy Perry

I haven't heared it on local radio, wonder if it didn't clear censorship? Oh well, i wouldn't be one to pass judgment if i were the MDA, we've all seen the horrendous video and offenders shouldn't cast the first stone. Honestly, all the people involved in the making of that video should be locked and chained to a monitor , eyes peeled open with clothes pegs and forced to endure hour upon continuous hour of that horror. Indeed DJ, play it relentlessly ...let the lyrics of "Yes yes y'all, we don't stop" be the words of poetic justice.

"I kissed a girl" is but one of the controversial songs Katy seems to enjoy threading the fine line on. Mild Experimental Lesbianism, calling a boyfriend gay , writing about getting drunk , telling some boy he has pms .. yada yada yada . You do wonder if she is a girl kissing booze drinking boy hater or if she is just singing all these just to get your attention. Remember when Alanis came out with "Jagged little pill" ? , and when Meredith Brooks entered the one hit wonders hall of fame with "Bitch"? There was a certain believability that is lacking here. Maybe Katy is just late to the party and is a wannabe but somehow i don't buy it. Time for a commercial break, enjoy the live performance

let's talk about the positives of the album. Katy Perry has got really nice vocal chops, reminds me a little of Pat Benetar. Songs like "I kissed a girl" and "hot n cold" will fill the dance floors for months with their infectious 80s electro clash disco sound. Proving she has an eye on the billboard charts, songs like "Ure so gay" and "Waking up in Vegas" follow the same recipe and will be fun songs to play at parties or hen nights.

The album starts out very strong with its 80s theme and then goes really pop rock by track 4. This is where the discrepancies really annoy me as i get the impression she is really more rock than electro and those 3 songs were thrown in to get her noticed. What is really damning is that those 3 songs she didn't write are by far the best songs on the album. Listen to the songs she did write ( Thinking of you, Mannequin, One of the boys)and you'll get a real sense that she rocks rather than camps out. However, most of us should really choose to enjoy the tracks as they are and as for me ,the jury is still out on who she really is as a songwriter.

Oh yes, I was listening to "I kissed a girl" and "Hot n Cold" whilst preparing dinner and i must say, i had an added bounce to my step as i chopped potatoes, diced garlic and played with my red wine reduction sauce. My lesson? Do not put Mika, Scissor sisters and Katy Perry in the same playlist whilst cooking or you might end up creating some new gay dance move only the MDA could approve of.

Dave Barnes ,,, Not Another Lifehouse!

| Saturday, July 12, 2008
Dave Barnes

Lifehouse is one of the bands i list under "feelgood", "reliable", "steady" and gasp "boring?!" Jason wade has mad vocals and he writes some damn catchy tunes. You could play their entire catalogue on any Hits station and not miss a beat. Enter Dave Barnes, an honest song writer with some very pop friendly melodies who is waiting for the big time. Let's listen to his single first before i go into the album review

By the way, I've received some feedback that alot of you don't actually load the songs cause you read my blog @ work and so i hear crap like "hey! I'm supposed to be working!" or "The server speed is too slow!". I bet if i posted Jessica Alba breast feeding, none of this "work" rubbish would appear. And no turtle server would come between you and that child's mammogram. Anyway, i would post the songs for you to download if it weren't ILLEGAL. Not to fret, i do value your feedback/suggestions and God knows i live to serve so i will be uploading the songs Ive featured on a regular basis on a myspace page pretty soon. So you can go there and tune out. Look out for the page soon..

Ok! Sorry Mr Barnes, here is what i reckon. Verdict: I really like it. I kinda expected a 2 hit wonder from this fella from nashville but he did surprise me with about 6 keepers on a 13 track effort. He has a gorgeous tone ala Jason Wade but his musicality is much more subtle and he doesn't rely as heavily on tried and tested formulaic chord formations to churn his goodies. Listen to this lovely track "On a night like this" (Rod, Mario, you Pinoys will love this song). When he croons "On a night like this, i could fall in love with you", its perfect for unhooking the bra when you need a closing song.

On A Night Like This - Dave Barnes

So , hopefully by now you've listened to the 2 songs and are in agreement with me that he is a standout vocalist with nice hooks. The hits really roll off the album and i'm wondering why radio hasn't picked up on him. C'mon radio stations.. the world is passing by you and you're still ostriched in Flo Rida?? (ssssh but 'Low' is Da song of Da year!!! ) "When a heart breaks" is a trousers warming piece that is begging to be on some night time TV show. It's had about 3 repeat plays from me on my 1st listen and i'm still humming it in the loo.

At times, Dave's out of character gospel roots really shine through and the politically correct side of me can't help but imagine big assed, sweaty black women waving their hands in the air as they harmonize " Swing low.. sweet Chariot". So this is where the similarities to lifehouse end and the ones with fat Negroes begin. Aside from his chart friendly ala lifehouse hits, the rest of the album is speckled with his nashville upbringing and country town vibe. I for one really enjoyed certain pieces. "Believe" is crowd pleasing and really easy on the ears. At certain stages of the album , you feel Dave trying to reach out with messages of love peace and joy by addressing issues like extreme poverty and materialism. What i like is that it's all really light and fluffy without being overly sweet. Listen to "10,000 children" to hear what i mean.

Like i said, lots of treats to take away and play at home or in the car. By the way, as you've come to the end of this post, you would have realised Dave Barnes is NOT another lifehouse. ( Read the title again with the emphasis on the "not".. don't you just love perspective?)

K is for Kerli

Kerli says "Love is dead"

The album cover looks like Tim Burton designed it, the music sounds like Amy Lee from Evanescence went to Estonia , dyed her hair and got a funky accent. Estoniwhat??? Yes.. Estonia, aside from all you RISK geeks, most thespians will agree Estonia sounds like some anal condition associated with piles.

I must admit that the only thing i know about Estonia is an Estonian English Premier League goalkeeper called Matt Pooom who used to play for Bolton Wanderers. These days, globalisation means underground talent like Kerli is accessible to the rest of the real world. The opening track " love is dead" is stellar. The vid is pretty interesting i must admit. Reminds me of the old classic MV of world champion eater Takeru Kobayashi eating in reverse.(can anyone recollect the song?)

Kerli reminds me of of Evanescence and some nightwish thrown in as well. What she has going for her is more diversity within the album. You have the power ballad "bulletproof" , the R&B " Creepshow" and the weird " Fragile" . The second track "Walking on air" is really creepy. The opening lyrics go " There's a really creepy house in a little creepy place.." You could say the same about the song and the album. It's got a queer dark gothic scarehouse tone to it with a haunting string section. I'm sure it would be a joy for some demented psycho killer to play in his headphones whilst he inflicts latex pain.

As usual, I like my music the same way i like my food. Fresh. Kerli certainly sounds refreshing in a dark rock goth kinda way. PLUS she's from Estonia, i mean how many Estonians will you ever get to know? Now u have 1. I have 2. I win

I hate you John.

John Mayer "Where the light is"

Fact 1: We all know John. Fact 2: We all want to be John. Fact 3: We can never smell anything as good as what John has got. The asshole has dated Jennifer love hewitt, Jessica Simpson and now Jennifer aniston. He likes his Js as much as he likes his demi goddesses. Dumbnuts has talent on a 5 string and can pull off a decent performance. Smelly feet also has the whole world waiting on his bloody releases as they are generally very good. PLUS, he's dated "body is a wonderland" Jennifer love hewitt...argghh.... WHY JENNIFER???? WHY????

Which brings me to my review. With all the goodies going for the dickhead, Why the hell is he always singing the damn blues??? He formed bluesy John Mayer Trio with the legendary pino palladino and some dude called steve jordan and they created an album called TRY! I'm not a big fan of the release but the collaboraton did wonders for girlyboy's musical inspiration. Continuum for me was by far the superior album to Heavier things and he owes alot to the influence the John Mayer trio had on that. He really should buy dinner for steve and pino for life; "Here, dinner's on me.......tonight? no no every night...i mean till you all collapse and die" Serious.

The above is Jackoff doing a cover of Tom Petty's classic in the Los Angeles gig that this 2 cd release is about. It's not that bad ( really HATE him) and you can tell he's gotten more comfortable taking someone else's classic and making the original look bad. He's done it with GnR's patience and even Justin Timberlake. This concert listens like his life story on 2 cds. He puts all off his repertoire through their paces. He has soft acoustic guitar pieces on tracks like " Stop this train" and "Daughters". He does a decent effort on " Bold as Love" which is a Jimi Hendrix original if i'm not wrong. Listen to the full band ensemble on this one, very nice. In fact, this 2 cd effort smacks of a mix hot pot. He has tracks like "Good Love is on the way" where he totally rocks out with heavy guitars and crashing drums. Then he goes uber blues on "Gravity". That track btw is my favorite on the album. Check out this live version he did taken from the fantastic Abbey road sessions

(argh.. the solo at the 3 min mark... argh. so good)

OK back to the release. You really get a sense of who Ugly mouth is and where he's come from just by playing the album track by track. Most fans will prefer the 2nd cd but i must say , the whole damn thing is pretty good. Wait for the DVD, i can't wait. like i said... you can't even smell success like this man's B.O. Asshole

Light my Fire!

Fireflight

Let's all make like inanimate objects and rock with fireflight. Much like paramore, flyleaf, this whole rock band fronted by a chick business is really making it's way onto the scene of late. I suppose since Avril wasn't actually a rocker, there is a growing army of lost female teens waiting for a leader to emerge. ( Fiona apple should just come back and kick ass!) Remember Rock Star INXS ? That programme showed me chicks can do it just as good. Here's a picture of Dilana , the finalist from that show. Scary..

Click on the player to listen to a preview of "unbreakable" from Fireflight

Unbreakable - Fireflight

Fireflight is a straight up product of Christian rock. Words like "Faith" and "Destiny" get tossed around themes of reliance and comfort in a higher power. The beauty of bands like fireflight, POD and Switchfoot is that they don't hide behind their motivation for their craft. They aren't asking you to go to church, nor are they asking anyone to follow in their footsteps. Recently, Switchfoot was in town and i overheard comments like "Wa .. really like church" etc. Part of me agreed that the show did have a gospel undertone to it , but on the other hand.. did you expect anything different? Part of appreciating a song is also about knowing the songwriter and the lyrics behind a song. When Color me bad sang " Girl, i want to sex you up" , it was pretty obvious you didnt have to dig deep to know what the band was about.

This is the title track and the killer stand out single. More commentary after the video. Click damn it!

Unbreakable - Fireflight

'unbreakable' is currently the theme song used in the bionic woman trailer and you can see why. It's a strong, powerful, take it up the nuts song that kinda inspires you to do all sorts of weird things. Like stand in the middle of a warehouse and swing your hair around wildly. ( Really.. could the opening of the video be more predictable?)

The album isn't all rock and power however, in fact aside from 'unbreakable', the other stand out tracks are 'You gave me a promise' and 'Wrapped in your arms'. Both of which are ballads that should be labeled under "Sunday morning music". Fireflight has a penchant for the heavy chorus and big guitars. Listen to 'The hunger' and 'stand up' and you get the sense this band probably isn't adverse to the odd shot of vodka every 10 mins or so. The sound is tight and i must admit to preferring the melodies of fireflight alot more than the more popular Paramore.

So , if you're looking for a good chick led rock band that isn't afraid to be bold and strong, look no further than fireflight. If however, like me, you like your women curvy and pouty, next week's post should be more tasty. I've got some R&B lined up.
