One Republic

Thanks to the 11 requests i had for this album, i am totally "so yesterday" with this review. I kinda asked ALL 11 offenders why One republic needed a review when their songs are overplayed on radio, overused on every reality show and overexposed on MTV. The best answer goes to Cindy who said " Dunno.. nice what". (apologies to my new found international readers, you guys will really get some Singlish 101 reading this blog)

I wont post the song here anymore as all key songs are now on the cool player on the right where you can click and listen at leisure. I will however still feature some nice live performances where available. Like.. now :)

For most of us who are abused by local radio,we all first heard uber producer Timbaland use "Apologize" in his album " Shock Value" and made a very good song sound ordinary. Good thing One republic had the common sense to release the original version which is way way better. By the way, is it just me or does Timbaland annoy the hell outta you when he sings/raps? No doubt he has the chops to pull off a top 10 hit but he really should stay behind the mixer and not the mic. I hate it when he goes " O..oh.. O..oh " on his massacre of "Apologize". I mean he already looks like an ape, did he really need to howl like one? geez..

Ok so, "Dreaming out loud" is by all accounts not too shabby. I did some googling and turns out the lead singer (whom i rate very highly) actually did production and song writing for acts like The Fray, Hilary Duff and Natasha Bedingfield. In fact, listen to "Come home" and "All we are", These 2 really sound like what you might expect from The Fray. The way Ryan Tedder wails and emotes, you get the impression he could do a cover of " The scientist" that would put dirty thoughts into Gwenyth Paltrow's pretty little head. Apart from "Apologize", i really like "Stop and stare" which is the current single. Simple lyrics with powerful undertones, listen to the chorus and you'll see it applies to almost of all us. If i could salute Jamarioquai, travelling without moving was the original "think i'm moving but i'm going nowhere"

I know most of you already either bought the album or got bored through radio's constant airplay but there is more to the album than the 2 singles. "Come Home" is my other must listen track that is really nice when on the bus or on transit. "Mercy" is worth more than a spin and more than 2 spins if you wake up early on Sundays. I'll be putting "Come home" in the playlist so you can check it out.

Oh ya do this as an experiment, start singing "stop and stare" (click to open lyrics) then when you get to the chorus , quickly switch to ...." and it's too late to apologize.. it's too lateeee".. it meshes perfectly in the same key tempo etc. Just for God's sweet sake, Please don't do the "O...ohhs."
